The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner I functions as a healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, to provide psychiatric/mental health care to patients. This position educates patients and/or intervenes in acute or chronic mental illness, and practices within department and Kennedy Krieger Institute guidelines in accordance with State of Maryland Nurse Practitioner Regulations. The Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU) is a unique, 16- bed unit dedicated to the assessment and treatment of children and young adults with severe, treatment-resistant behavioral disorders. The NBU serves patients with a variety of diagnoses, including: autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, intellectual disability, sleep disorders, seizure disorders, feeding disorders, stereotypic movement disorder with self-injurious behavior, and various genetic, metabolic and chromosomal disorders.
