Overview

Kennedy Krieger Institute | Baltimore, Maryland

Build your SLP career where communication changes lives.

Kennedy Krieger Institute is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Speech-Language Pathologist I to join our pediatric Speech-Language Pathology team. This full-time position is split between Inpatient and Outpatient services, with a primary focus on Kennedy Krieger’s Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU) and children with complex behavioral and communication needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career SLP who wants to strengthen their clinical skills while working alongside an interdisciplinary team serving children and adolescents with complex needs.

What You’ll Do

As a Speech-Language Pathologist I, you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and provide evidence-based treatment for speech, language, literacy, cognitive-communication, oral motor, and feeding/swallowing disorders.
  • Develop individualized intervention plans that incorporate the needs, interests, and goals of the patient and family.
  • Collaborate closely with families, medical and clinical providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to promote continuity of care.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, professional development, and training opportunities.
  • Maintain clinical documentation and case-management activities in accordance with Kennedy Krieger and applicable professional and regulatory standards.
  • Continue developing your clinical expertise while contributing to the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy goals of the Speech-Language Pathology Department and Kennedy Krieger Institute.

A Unique Inpatient SLP Experience

Kennedy Krieger’s inpatient programs provide opportunities to work with patients with complex pediatric needs. Within the Neurobehavioral Unit, SLPs evaluate and treat functional language through approaches that may include verbal communication, AAC, signs, play, literacy, feeding/swallowing, and voice skills. Staff and caregiver training are also integrated into care.

Across rehabilitation services, SLPs work as part of an interdisciplinary team and may address speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, oral motor, feeding/swallowing, and augmentative and alternative communication needs.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, or a related qualifying discipline.
  • Maryland Speech-Language Pathologist licensure.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through ASHA.
  • Completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year.
  • CPR certification within three months of training/date of hire.

Preferred:

  • Additional coursework, training, or experience working with complex pediatric speech-language, cognitive-communication, oral motor, and/or feeding/swallowing disorders.
