Overview

The Recreational Activities Staff plans and implements medically oriented and developmentally appropriate activities which support the patients and siblings in the outpatient setting. The Recreational Activities Staff is responsible for providing observation and assessment of patients, siblings and caregivers interactions to child life specialists when appropriate.

 

Responsibilities

1. Develops and facilitates developmentally appropriate play opportunities in individual and group settings which support the psychosocial and cultural needs of the patients and siblings.
2. Observes and assesses patients, siblings and caregivers interactions and provides information when appropriate to child life specialists and/or clinicians.
3. Models developmentally appropriate adult-child interactions to assist caregivers in improving interactions with their children.
4. Supervises patients and siblings in the outpatient playroom as needed.
5. Provides supervision for child life volunteers and practicum students.
6. Orders and maintains activity materials and supplies.
7. Cleans toys and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
8. Maintains a safe, therapeutic milieu in all patient areas and sustains appropriate professional boundaries with patients, caregivers and staff.
9. Maintains quality and effectiveness of patient services through the implementation of, and compliance with, all departmental and Institute policies, procedures and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to develop, plan, adapt, implement, and assess activities appropriate to the developmental, psychosocial, educational, behavioral, and recreational needs of children and adolescents of a variety of ages, cultures and abilities.
• CPR and Choking Infants/Children/Adults certification required.

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development or related field required.

 

EXPERIENCE:
• Two years’ experience in a pediatric setting (hospital, educational or structured recreational setting) preferred.

Minimum pay range

USD $40,043.12/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $66,204.53/Yr.
