Overview

Kennedy Krieger Institute is seeking an Occupational Therapist I to join our Occupational Therapy team. This early career professional will support the mission, vision, and values of Kennedy Krieger by providing evaluation, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention for individuals with sensory motor or neuromotor dysfunction.

The Occupational Therapist I will work collaboratively with patients, families, students, staff, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver compassionate, client-centered care. This role also includes maintaining accurate documentation, supporting caregiver education, participating in professional development, and contributing to a respectful, inclusive care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate assigned patients by gathering information about functional skills, roles, and context to support treatment planning.
  • Develop treatment plans grounded in best practices, evidence, and clinical reasoning.
  • Provide client-centered, compassionate, culturally sensitive, and effective occupational therapy interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to identify occupational therapy needs and prioritize treatment goals.
  • Complete thorough, objective, organized, and clinically accurate documentation in accordance with Institute, departmental, AOTA, and Maryland state guidelines.
  • Work effectively as part of inter- and intra-disciplinary teams while demonstrating initiative, professional communication, and sound judgment.
  • Support scheduling practices, productivity standards, and continuity of care through proactive communication with the Care Center and supervisor.
  • May supervise or provide guidance to COTAs, occupational therapy students, rehabilitation aides, rehabilitation techs, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Maintain treatment spaces and supplies while following safety and infection control policies.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Maryland.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR certification.
  •  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy required.
  • Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation and treatment preferred.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of occupational therapy principles, ethics, evidence-based practice, patient care, and Maryland Occupational Therapy regulations. The Occupational Therapist I should also be able to make appropriate clinical judgments, advocate for patients and families, communicate effectively, complete tasks accurately, and work successfully in team-based settings.

 

Physical and Work Requirements

This position requires the physical ability to provide occupational therapy assessments and treatment, including lifting and transferring clients and adaptive or therapeutic equipment up to 25 pounds. The role may require movement between offices or locations, travel within Maryland or nationally as needed, and physical presence at the assigned job site.

USD $74,000.00/Yr.
