The Associate Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks that could impact patient safety, staff well-being, regulatory compliance, and organizational operations. The position interfaces with the regulatory, safety and quality staff in identifying safety and quality opportunities and promoting a safety and quality culture. They will demonstrate sound judgment and utilize clinical practice and risk management knowledge to support a culture of safety and minimize legal and financial exposure.
1. Identify potential risks related to patient care, clinical processes, operations, and environment.
2. Review and investigate adverse events, sentinel events, and near-miss occurrence, ensuring appropriate action plans as needed.
3. Monitor trends in incidents, claims, and near misses.
4. Recommend corrective actions by performing root cause analyses (RCA) and proactive risk assessments.
5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary and departmental teams to enhance patient safety initiatives and implement risk reduction strategies
6. Participate in departmental, medical staff, and institutional committees.
7. Collaborate with the Legal Risk Coordinator and Legal Counsel to assist staff with various risk matters including complex patient issues, guardianship and custody issues, legal document review and testimony for legal matters.
8. Develop and deliver staff education on risk management and safety
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Certification in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or Nurse Legal Certification from an accredited/recognized institution highly preferred.
• Certified Professional in-Patient Safety (CPPS) highly preferred.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field required.
• Master's Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of experience in healthcare risk management or patient safety is required.
