Overview

The Assistant Teacher I will support the teachers who serve a varied population of students with typical and neuro-diverse abilities in the Integrated Early Learning Center. The incumbent assists with the implementation of the program as outlined and with adapting instruction that meets the individual academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs of the students.

 

The Early Learning Classrooms at Kennedy Krieger is a unique learning center that aims to provide a comprehensive and family-centered education to children aged 3 to 5.

 

Our classrooms are located in the Windsor Mill area of western Baltimore County. We provide an inclusive environment where both typically developing children and children who are neurodiverse can learn together.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist supervising teacher with the implementation of instruction and evaluation aspects of the classroom in accordance with students’ individualized plans using effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.
  2. Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teacher and administrators.
  3. Provide instruction, supervision, and classroom management under the direction of the supervising teacher.
  4. Implement behavioral protocols and assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
  5. Utilize instructional and non-instructional time in a professional manner in keeping with administrative guidelines.
  6. Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings.
  7. Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities that support student-life and promote a positive school experience.
  8. Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery in accordance with supervising teacher’s directions.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have or be able to obtain the 90-hour Preschool Training Certification within thirty days of hire.

 

EDUCATION:

Associate’s degree or completion of two years of college equivalence required. Additional relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for this degree requirement at the discretion of the Director, Integrated Early Learning Center.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience working in a classroom of students with disabilities.
  • Experience with pediatric population preferred

 

RELATED TRAINING:

Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  2. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
  3. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  4. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.
  5. Must be physically present at the assigned job site.
  6. Must be able to lift and carry students requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.
  7. Must be able to lift/carry/restrain students as needed to implement approved behavioral management techniques.
  8. Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor throughout daily interactions with students and staff.
