The Research Assistant I provide research and data analytic support for clinical research studies. The incumbent will focus on the management, analysis, and
interpretation of complex datasets derived from electronic medical records (EMR), clinical registries, and survey-based research.
This role includes conducting statistical analyses, developing analytic pipelines, and generating reports and visualizations to support scientific dissemination. The individual will work with supervision, contribute to study design and analytic strategies, and may contribute to manuscripts.
1. Conduct statistical analyses on clinical, EMR-derived, and survey datasets, including data cleaning, preprocessing, and modeling.
2. Develop and implement reproducible data analysis workflows using statistical programming tools (e.g., R, SPSS, Matlab, Python, SAS, or similar).
3. Create clear and effective data visualizations (e.g., graphs, dashboards, summary tables) to support interpretation and reporting of research findings.
4. Process, analyze, and present scientific data to research collaborators and study teams with oversight.
5. Manage and curate research datasets in accordance with protocols established by Principal Investigators or sponsors, including data extraction from EMR systems, data entry, validation, transformation, storage, and archiving.
6. Assist with integration and harmonization of multi-source data (e.g., EMR, REDCap, survey platforms).
7. Participate in the design of analytic plans, including selection of appropriate statistical methods and power/sample size considerations where applicable.
8. Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) required materials including protocol applications, data management plans, analytic plans, and regulatory documentation.
9. Ensure data quality through routine audits, validation checks, and implementation of data governance best practices.
10. Meet regularly with Principal Investigator and colleagues to review data, troubleshoot analytic challenges, prioritize tasks, and discuss relevant scientific literature.
11. Prepare reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for publication based on analyzed data; contribute to scientific writing and interpretation of findings.
12. Maintain clear, accurate, and reproducible documentation of all data processing and analytic procedures (e.g., codebooks, scripts, data dictionaries).
13. Perform general administrative work related to assigned studies, including data tracking, reporting, and study documentation.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, applied statistics, engineering, biology, or related field required. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Experience:
• A minimum of two years of professional experience in previous biomedical or clinical research experience preferred.
