The Medical Assistant will support smooth operations of the department by
performing administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed
medical provider. The incumbent will assist with examination and treatment of
patients as directed by the provider; assist staff with scheduling, test results, and
other administrative tasks; and will assist with maintaining medical supply stock,
entering patient data, and facilitating safe transitions of care
1. Prepare and assist in the examination and treatment procedures of pediatric
and adult patients as directed by healthcare providers.
2. Enter pertinent patient data into the electronic medical record (EMR) as
requested by the provider.
3. Assist staff with scheduling appointments, requesting medical information, test
results, photocopying, filing, and other tasks as assigned.
4. Track high-risk referrals and lab tests. Facilitate safe transitions of care.
5. Assist clinicians in pending orders for labs, durable medical equipment and
facilitating medication refill requests.
6. Assisting with obtaining prior authorization for the Spina Bifida and related
medical program services as needed.
7. Assist in the maintenance and inventory of medical supplies. Restock and
prepare exam rooms for the next day according to par levels. Notify staff
member responsible for ordering supplies when appropriate.
8. Work within scope to answer phones; screens calls; EMR messages; and act as a
liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure
successful, timely, and compassionate communication.
9. Review clinic schedules for accuracy and openings. Assist in filling appointment
slots when needed.
10. Assist providers with dictations to ensure compliance with billing and
regulatory requirements.
11. Function effectively as a collaborative team member with demonstrated
commitment to group goals and teamwork.
Must possess and maintain Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) within 6 months of
hire date.
EDUCATION:
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Associates degree or higher preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience in a medical and/or rehabilitation setting is highly desirable.
