Overview

The Senior Research Assistant will carry out clinical and translational neuroimaging research with supervision from the Principal Investigator (PI). This will include oversight of lab research operations, protocol development/refinement, collection and analysis of data, preparation of research publications, and supervision/mentorship of trainees.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in the creation and maintenance of clinical research databases, including, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy Research Network (CPRN), the Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) Research Database, and a private clinical database.
2. Assist in Institutional Review Boards (IRB) applications for clinical projects as well as grant-writing, where appropriate.
3. Discuss ongoing trials with patients and assist in obtaining informed consent.
4. Work with the Principal Investigator (PIs) and other team members on single-institution and multi-institutional projects assessing clinical outcomes of medical and surgical interventions for cerebral palsy.
5. Administer research questionnaires as appropriate to level of training. If necessary, additional training may be provided by the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
6. Maintain appropriate documentation of research results as required by research protocol. Recommend revisions to experimental methods based upon observations of the data following established procedures in monitoring/reviewing data quality and accuracy.
7. Keep daily lab notes including maintenance of research databases and inventory spreadsheets.
8. Assure compliance with regulatory requirements and Kennedy Krieger Institute standards, policies and procedures.
9. Participate in experimental design, including planning, implementation, evaluations and interpreting of results.
10. Organize, pre-process, analyze and interpret experimental data.
11. Assists in the development of new analysis techniques through journal article review, programming, trouble-shooting and effective reporting/documentation.
12. Conduct journal reviews, as relevant to ongoing studies.
13. Participate in preparing, reviewing, and editing manuscripts, scientific illustrations, tables, and computer graphics for publications.
14. Mentor the work of students involved in research.
15. Enhance professional growth and development through research meetings, case conferences, educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, academic conferences, and seminars.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or related field required.
• Master’s degree in STEM or related field preferred.
• Coursework in database management, statistics, and academic publication formats preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:
• Candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 4-years of related experience.
• Candidates with a master’s degree must have a minimum of 2-years of related experience.
• Experience with at least one programming language is required. Experience in MATLAB, bash/c-shell, and/or in using analysis scripts in AFNI, TORTOISE, mrtrix, or other neuroimaging suites will be highly valued and preferred.
• Experience with database management and manuscript preparation preferred.

Minimum pay range

USD $50,148.80/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $85,998.22/Yr.
