Overview

The Employment Training Specialist will be responsible for providing direct support, training and professional development to individuals with disabilities within the community and at their place of employment. This staff member will work directly with individuals, businesses/employers and families to ensure success during professional development and supported employment. This position will require travel in and around the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide person-centered support during integrated professional development, supported employment and job trial/shadowing opportunities in order for the individual to acquire and maintain competitive and marketable job skills.
  2. Communicate effectively with Employment Coordinator, Meaningful Community Services Leadership Team, community businesses, employers/managers, co-workers, family members, as it relates to the individual needs and supports.
  3. Perform regular task analyses and observations to enable community members to learn and productively perform tasks with sufficient quality and attention to detail required for professional development/employment.
  4. Ensure that Maryland state-mandated documentation related to the provision of services to clients (including but not limited to, daily service notes, data forms, observations and any relevant behavioral data sheets) is completed and submitted in a timely manner for each individual served to provide the Meaningful Community Services Leadership Team with critical data outcome results.
  5. Assist with completing assessments to determine the abilities and desires of the individual, the demands of the job tasks, and in making meaningful matches. 
  6. Participate in the development and implementation of behavior management and Person-Centered Plans as designed; Implement intervention, coaching, and support strategies in accordance with the plan, program, and needs of the individual as related to Supported Employment.
  7. Collaborate with consumers, employers, families, job placement specialist, agency personnel, and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to training and employment.
  8. Support individuals in life skills within the areas of grooming, hygiene, and communication, interviewing, budgeting, banking and professional behavior as they relate to successful employment and independence.
  9. Provide travel training to the individual to support travel needs to business/job site and within the community as needed.
  10. Participate in decision making discussions to identify and implement person-centered training strategies and/or services with the Meaningful Community Services Leadership Team and business/job site staff.
  11. Attend and participate in all scheduled team meetings and trainings.
  12. Work with the business/job site to implement and develop natural supports and other accommodations to facilitate an individuals’ success on the job.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma, certificate of completion, or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Human Services, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of experience preferred.
