The Financial Analyst II independently performs a variety of financial tasks in the areas of grants and budgets. The Financial Analyst II will conduct accounting and financial analyses. This staff member is responsible for working with the Sponsored Projects Management team to track departmental activities and maintain systems to report these data on a routine basis. Activities include collecting, analyzing, and preparing financial data, assisting managers with the preparation of grant application/paperwork, maintaining grant files, and research service center activities.
1. Coordinate finance-related tasks to support the daily operations of a designated department, including the transfer of information between the department and Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Finance Department.
2. Prepare monthly analysis of budget to actual revenue and expenses for the designated department and meet with the Manager(s), Sponsored Projects monthly to review results and make recommendations.
3. Attend and participate in meetings with Department Director(s), Principal Investigator(s) and Manager(s).
4. Complete required grant application paperwork, including sub-contract and consulting agreements, as needed.
5. Set-up and maintain grant files and budgets for pending and awarded grants.
6. Monitor grants to ensure all contractual requirements are met, invoices and reports are executed, and all award statements and payments are received.
7. Communicate appropriate budget adjustment recommendations to Managers, Sponsored Projects and prepare journal entries to ensure accounts are reconciled and grants are closed according to project expectations and requirements.
8. Process departmental invoices, purchase orders, and Independent Contractor Agreements.
9. Manage monthly time and effort report, and verify the accuracy of salary allocations and effort.
10. Assist the Department Director(s) and Manager(s) with special projects as needed.
EDUCATION:
• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 4 years of experience and/or training in accounting, business administration, management, budgeting, grant accounting, or other related field required. A college degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
