Responsibilities

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Develop and assist in implementing play activities in the community room to give the children acceptable outlets for their emotions and assist children and their families in adjusting to the center environment.
  2. Monitor children as they arrive. Provide an environment that is safe, stimulating, and child oriented.
  3. Assist in providing clients with structural opportunities for social interaction with peers and adults as well as opportunities to develop their leisure and recreational interests and skills.
  4. Assist children in developing and maintaining a positive and healthy attitude about themselves as individuals.
  5. Maintain a clean and organized play area including routine scheduled toy washing in accordance with infection control standards.
  6. Communicate information with the other staff as needed.
  7. Responsible for following all procedures related to working in the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress community room.

 

*The individual will demonstrate the ability to appropriately aid the needs of children and adolescents with or without a developmental disability and their families. The individual will be able to address the needs of certain specific adults with disabilities on a case-by-case basis as determined by the physicians.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  2. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
  3. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  4. Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
  5. Must be able to travel to and from different locations and sites in Maryland.
  6. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.
  7. Must be physically present at the assigned job site.
  8. *May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood pathogens, and aggressive or combative patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish with a proficiency level that meets the Institute’s minimum standards - Intermediate High for Administrative Support Staff. Able to speak Spanish fluently with ease and confidence in a variety of topics related to work, home, leisure activities, as well as events of current, public or personal interest or individual relevance. Able to convey intended message with accuracy, clarity and precision without misrepresentation or confusion while being readily understood by native speakers.
  • Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

 

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree in therapeutic recreation preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience working with families and children affected by abuse and neglect is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate cultural awareness to the population served to include, but not be limited to, the Spanish speaking population.
  • Must be able to accept constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, patients, and their families as well as the general public, across all age groups, including but not limited to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to departmental and organizational policies and procedures, and assuming authority appropriately.
  • Must maintain adequate personal grooming consistent with professional appearance.
  • Must pursue education or training necessary to perform at the level of competence required to incorporate the hardware, software, technologies, and ideas relevant to specific job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to adhere to the Principles and to the Mission of the Institute’s Service Excellence initiative.
  • *Knowledge of normal/abnormal growth and development throughout the age continuum.
  • *Ability to provide, assess, interpret, and communicate age-specific data (*in response to treatment protocols).
  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Kennedy Krieger Institute.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

USD $18,566.39/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $30,107.58/Yr.
