Overview

The Occupational Therapy (OT) Assistant Director will assist the Senior Director with administration of the Occupational Therapy Department; perform program evaluations and subsequent planning and execution, oversee maintenance of patient records, and supervise staff who lead Occupational Therapy in Outpatient, Inpatient, satellites, Kennedy Krieger School and Kennedy Krieger community programs.  The Assistant Director leads intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training programs for affiliating students, staff, and community agencies; oversees clinical supervision of occupational therapists at various levels, and assists the senior director with the design and operation of clinical, administrative, training and research activities within the occupational therapy department.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Senior Director in developing, implementing, and evaluating the clinical policies and procedures reflective of the department, Institute, Maryland Licensing Board, and Joint Commission with primary focus on both the Inpatient and Outpatient OT programs.
  2. Evaluate assigned outpatients that typically includes complex clinical issues and multiple secondary diagnoses; develop treatment plans consistent with best practices, well-grounded in evidence and utilizing clinical reasoning and execute client-centered, meaningful and effective treatment plans that progress client towards long term goals.
  3. In conjunction with Senior Director, help to establish scope of services within an interdisciplinary context and lead oversight activities across the continuum to ensure quality and effectiveness of clinical services.
  4. Provide supervision to department staff to include performance appraisals, goals setting, progressive discipline, approving work/leave schedules, and day-to-day workplace interventions and problem resolution. Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of prospective Occupational Therapists and guide and mentor emerging OT leaders, staff and affiliating students/trainees.
  5. Demonstrates leadership and management skills in the development and implementation of systems for evaluating delivery of services for outpatient OT clinics, including case management, productivity needs, supervision, documentation, and professional training.
  6. Serve as the liaison and primary contact with other medical clinics and OT Managers regarding service delivery issues across the continuum and plan and execute biannual senior OT leadership meetings.
  7. Supervise and lead performance management activities as outlined in the OT organization chart.
  8. Assist the Senior Director with design and implementation of PE/PI activities with emphasis on evaluating clinical outcomes.
  9. Assume responsibility for department in absence of Senior Director.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Maryland.
  • Must possess a high level of clinical skill and leadership ability to effectively and efficiently manage and lead a large group.
  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by the Institute.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

  • Must be graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy with a minimum basic Masters/advanced Masters in Occupational Therapy.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of five years licensed experience in Occupational Therapy, at least three years of which include the coordination and supervision of students and clinical staff.
  • Experience in implementing program development, program evaluation, and evidence of strong leadership.
  • Previous experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation management and treatment is required.

USD $82,048.00/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $146,883.00/Yr.
