Overview

The Summer Works Staff will assist STP clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including tasks serving the administrative, maintenance and operational needs of the program. The incumbent will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a clinician in accordance with the policies and procedures of Kennedy Krieger, the STP program, and the Laws and Regulations of the State of Maryland.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Set up, conduct, and supervise therapeutic exercise & functional activities programs under direct supervision of clinician (OT, PT, SLP, Educator, Nurse). Assist clinicians with specific interventions as allowed by state law.
  2. Assist with aquatic therapy sessions under the direct supervision of a treating clinician.
  3. Set up, maintain, and clean patient treatment areas before & after treatment sessions. Ensure patient & staff safety, hygiene, and patient privacy, and observe patient-specific and standard precautions.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of adaptive equipment, rehabilitation modalities, and orthotic devices, and patient monitoring. Provide specific feedback to supervising clinician.
  5. Demonstrate technical proficiency in the use of selected adapted equipment, rehabilitation modalities, application removal of electrodes, and supportive and orthotic devices.
  6. Effectively communicate patient care information with patients and families as directed by supervising clinician. Identify and communicate patient needs to supervising clinician.
  7. Assist with patient care duties including greeting and transporting patients, and with patient hygiene/dressing needs,
  8. Demonstrate technical competence in executing various patient transfer techniques using proper body mechanics and assistive devices, and requests assistance as needed.
  9. Perform non-patient care duties to include setting up materials/equipment in preparation for sessions and assisting with research through organization and inputting of data.
  10. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling, and safe storage of equipment. Identify and correct/report quality control problems or environmental hazards.
  11. Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross is preferred

EDUCATION:

  • High School Graduate/GED preferred
  • Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 6 months experience working or volunteering in a related clinical setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
