The Assistant Teacher II will support the special educators and therapists who serve a varied population of students in a full day rehabilitation setting to support the patient’s educational needs during the rehabilitation stay, which may include instruction of work from school, implementation of the an Individualized Education Program (IEP) if applicable, and support of the rehabilitation treatment plan of each student/patient. The incumbent will assist with adapting instruction that meets the individual academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs of the students/patients, and will be responsible for the general management of the classroom including arrival, meal, and dismissal times; greeting families; and orienting student/patients to their schedule. The incumbent will be expected to consistently implement behavioral plans, and will independently fulfill all teacher duties and responsibilities under the direction of the Educational Transition Therapist as needed.

Responsibilities

  1. In cooperation with the supervising teacher, plan and implement instruction in accordance with each students’ IEP as well as their rehabilitation and treatment plan, while using effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.
  2. Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teachers and administrators.
  3. Implement behavioral protocols/assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
  4. Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings in a professional and collegial manner.
  5. Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities that promote a positive Fairmount Rehabilitation Program experience.
  6. Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery in accordance with supervising teacher’s directions.
  7. Identify changes in the physical, health, or emotional status of the students. and report these changes to the nurse.
  8. Perform direct-care patient duties including, but not limited to, assisting with arrival and dismissal, hygiene/dressing needs, daily schedule and communication needs, and facilitating meals.
  9. Assist with programmatic functions and clerical duties that support the program, to include arranging transportation for patients; organizing therapeutic outings; and setting-up, maintaining, and cleaning patient treatment areas before and after treatment sessions.
  10. Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
  11. Provide coverage for Rehabilitation Aide/Tech duties as needed.

  • None.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one year of experience in a classroom setting required.
  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is highly preferred.

Minimum pay range

USD $37,132.00/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $60,215.00/Yr.
