Overview

The Assistant Principal provides administrative support to the Principal and the Educational Director in the day-to-day operation of the school program. 

 

The Assistant Principal facilitates an educational environment that maximizes student success and enhances the quality of student life. The Assistant Principal assists the Principal, the Educational Director, Behavior Resource, Related Service and the Admissions Compliance and Transition (ACT) office in promoting student learning, implementing school-wide discipline and behavior management and with a variety of administrative tasks.

 

At the Kennedy Krieger School: Greenspring Campus High School, our mission is to empower students with diverse abilities to learn and develop lifelong skills while providing a safe and nurturing educational environment staffed by highly skilled, collaborative and dedicated professionals working in partnership with the home, workplace and community.

 

Our 11-month program focuses on building essential skills based on standards and curricula identified by the Maryland State Department of Education. In addition, instruction in art, music, physical education and fitness, health, life and social skills, career exploration and development and vocational skills round out the course of study.

 

We are a nonpublic special education day program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  1. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate teaching and paraprofessional staff in all aspects of job related responsibilities and duties.
  2. Provide technical assistance and guidance to assigned teachers and classrooms to ensure best practice in delivery of classroom management strategies and academic programming.
  3. Facilitate, coach and monitor collaborative team function within a Professional Learning Community.
  4. Provide administrative supervision of educational programs and students both within school hours and after school hours, including extra-curricular events.
  5. Seek out and utilize relevant data to facilitate a continuous quality improvement process which is inclusive, transparent and results-oriented.
  6. Assume an administrative team role in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the school’s mission and administrative policies
  7. Prepare, design, and provide in-service training as needed. Coordinate daily staff deployment in concert with the Principal and/or Educational Director.
  8. Collaborate with the ACT office in regard to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, intake meetings, and student records as needed.
  9. Maintain effective and supportive relations with parents/guardians through responsiveness as well as clear and timely verbal and written communication.
  10. Maintain effective and timely communication with all related service departments regarding student issues, staffing issues, and school-wide policies and procedures.
  11. Collaborate with designated school test coordinator regarding state mandated test administration, to include the training of staff and the development of testing schedules.
  12. Collaborate with the Principal, Educational Director, and ACT office to ensure compliance with Kennedy Krieger Schools (KKS), Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and Local School Systems (LSS) requirements relating to the implementation of IEPs and all other aspects of special education.
  13. Proactively support a mission driven school climate and culture.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Assistant Principal role demands exceptional organizational and administrative skills. The Assistant Principal must demonstrate content-expertise in instructional pedagogy, curriculum development and implementation, human development and psychology, and behavior management for students with a range of special education needs. Process-expertise must be demonstrated during collaboration within professional teams. The Assistant Principal is expected to provide both content and process-expertise in a variety of consultative relationships and to assume a leadership role in staff recruitment and development.
  • Employee must achieve Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification at the “Practitioner” level (or higher) according to the timeline established within the departmental policy. Training will be provided by department.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Word and Excel.

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education is required.
  • Completion of and/or working toward Administrative Certification (Admin I) is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years teaching, counseling, and/or administration in special education is required.
  • Possession and maintenance of MSDE full certification is required.

 

Minimum pay range

USD $61,845.00/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $109,392.00/Yr.
