Overview

The NBU Treatment Specialist will provide oversight and feedback to Clinical Assistants in the implementation of treatment protocols as well as other behavioral and safety protocols. The Treatment Specialist will work in conjunction with behavioral teams to learn protocols and facilitate training of treatment protocols and procedures to Clinical Assistants and caregivers. 

Responsibilities

  1. Work with behavioral teams to understand the scientific rationale for each component of the treatment protocol. Convey this rationale when relaying information to other learners.
  2. Systematically train and prepare others to implement behavioral and safety protocols, with an emphasis on treatment protocols. Answer questions, model and demonstrate appropriate protocol implementation.
  3. Will observe implementation of treatment protocols, provide in-the-moment encouragement, recommendations, guidance and support to learners.
  4. Demonstrate performance standards and articulate rationale and the science and theory behind what is being done. 
  5. Listen with the intent to understand questions or to identify any source of difficulty and answer, teach and correct performance.
  6. Provide direction, encouragement, guidance and physical assistance in managing and addressing extinction bursts.
  7. Assist in training activities for newly hired clinical assistants, as needed.
  8. Assist in the assessment of adaptive, leisure and self-help skills, potential reinforcers and problem behaviors, as needed.
  9. Actively participate with members of the behavioral team to specialize in the implementation of treatment protocols to equip them for staff and parent training and generalization of those treatment protocols.
  10. Observe, demonstrate and give feedback to Clinical Assistants in collecting data, implementing treatment protocols, safe and appropriate patient handling, management, and transportation guidance techniques, and engaging in professional behavior. This includes collecting treatment integrity data as necessary.
  11. Provide feedback to supervisors and behavioral team regarding insights related to new patients, difficult situations for patients (i.e., baths, meals, toileting) as well as treatment accuracy, feasibility and any suggestions to improve protocol implementation.
  12. Review treatment protocols and provide input to primary therapist to help ensure staff comprehension.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or GED Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or allied discipline preferred. Six months’ experience implementing behavioral protocols may be considered in place of a Bachelor’s degree.

 Experience:

  • At least six months of NBU experience in the implementation of behavioral assessment/treatment programs with the developmentally disabled population is required.

USD $38,906.40/Yr.
