Overview

The Occupational Therapist II will provide direct patient care by assessing and treating patients with mobility and functional access needs with a primary focus on Assistive Technology. The incumbent will administer department and program functions; maintain documentation relative to services offered; provide clinical supervision of Occupational Therapy students, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, volunteers, and aides; and participate in intra and interdisciplinary training programs. This position will develop and/or coordinate patient and staff education programs within area of specialty, assure continuity in clinical and patient education programs, and demonstrate leadership and high level of expertise in their specialty area.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate assigned patients, demonstrating the ability to acquire information about a client’s functional skills, roles, and context. Prioritize needs and analyze information obtained from the occupational profile to make recommendations regarding assistive technology needs.
  2. Develop and implement effective treatment plans focused on improving independence and functioning that are consistent with best practices, well-grounded in evidence, and utilize clinical reasoning that progress client towards long term goals with consideration given to the needs and interests of patients and their families.
  3. Assist patients and their caregivers with the funding process to obtain assistive technology equipment via insurance or outside agencies.
  4. Recognize and consistently respond in a therapeutic manner to environmental stressors, challenging client behaviors, and multiple demands of working in a pediatric setting.
  5. Collaborate with families for identification of occupational therapy based assistive technology needs and prioritization of treatment goals and plans, with provision of written guidance to caregivers as appropriate.
  6. Maintain written documentation, including patient evaluation reports, letters of medical necessity, and progress notes, according to procedures of the department, the Institute, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and Maryland Occupational Therapy guidelines.
  7. Actively collaborate in inter/intra- disciplinary and supervisory relationships, demonstrating initiation, effective listening, and good judgment to manage caseload.
  8. Participate in departmental and community outreach activities (e.g., presentations, services on committees).
  9. Supervise affiliating level I and/or level II students, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, and Rehab Techs as assigned and foster professional development of supervisee(s).
  10. Maintain appropriate professional affiliations for state and national licensure/certifications as well as following standards set forth by the Institute and the Program.
  11. Assist with maintenance, care, and clean-up of departmental equipment and supplies, ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures related to safety and infection control guidelines.
  12. Assist supervisor in setting and implementing goals for professional growth and development.

Qualifications

Must possess and maintain licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Maryland.

 

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy with a minimum Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three years of licensed occupational therapy experience, with a minimum of two years of pediatric/rehab or assistive technology specialty, required.

USD $61,845.00

Maximum pay range

USD $109,392.00
