Overview

The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress at Kennedy Krieger Institute has been operating for over 40 years and has received national recognition. The Clinical Social Worker is a primary therapist to children and families who have been exposed to abuse, neglect and violence.

 

The Clinical Social Worker III is a primary therapist to children and adolescents with mental health conditions and their families and/or foster families.  The social worker is an active advocate for clients in the community for implementing a comprehensive service plan for the child and his/her caretakers.  He/she may assist in reviewing and evaluating clinical social work services and may assist in developing training materials and curricula for in-service and community-based training.  This position provides both clinical and administrative supervision to social workers and graduate social work interns.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct supervision to assigned social work staff, trainees, and/or graduate students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting, onboarding, training, providing support and feedback, scheduling, mentoring, and ensuring the adherence and compliance of workplace standards and policies.
  2. Provides clinical social work services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families including diagnostic interview and treatment through individual, group, family, or marital treatment.
  3. As indicated, collaborates with the referring agency, the school system, and the juvenile court system to assist in developing an agency service plan for the child and family and to assure that the children are receiving appropriate services.
  4. Participates in individual supervision, clinic meetings, administrative staff meetings, and any mandatory in-service training.
  5. Maintains client activity at the projected level set by the administrative staff.
  6. Maintains the medical record for each client which includes diagnostic interview note, ongoing contact notes, transfer notes, MHP treatment plan, and discharge note.
  7. Maintains active ongoing participation in departmental or interdisciplinary research, committee projects, and/or team development. May supervise/train social work interns.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed in the State of Maryland, by the Board of Social Work Examiners, Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical (LCSW-C).
  • Must hold and maintain CPR certification.
  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Kennedy Krieger Institute.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited School of Social Work required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have at least 4 years’ experience related to providing services to children with developmental and emotional disturbance.
  • Demonstrated leadership in training, service, research, community outreach, program development or administration.
