Overview

The Manager, Prospect Research plays a crucial role in the Office of Philanthropy by conducting prospect research, managing gift officer portfolios, analyzing data, and preparing reports for both colleagues and senior leaders in the department. Under the guidance of the Director, Philanthropy Administration, the incumbent will create an efficient system for prospect research and work to identify a robust prospect pipeline. This position strategically collaborates with front-line fundraising staff, aligning efforts towards the common goal of enhancing philanthropic revenue for Kennedy Krieger Institute

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive prospect research using various tools and resources to identify individuals, corporations, and foundations with potential interest in supporting Kennedy Krieger Institute. Identify new prospects from grateful patient families. Evaluate and analyze existing donors and prospects to determine their capacity and inclination to contribute.
  2. Analyze data related to donor giving patterns, preferences, and trends. Prepare detailed reports and summaries for use in fundraising strategies, campaigns, and solicitation efforts.
  3. Produce both short research profiles and deep background dossiers for members of the Philanthropy team and senior leaders, and in preparation for special events.
  4. Work collaboratively with front-line fundraisers to assist them in developing specific cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects.
  5. Collaborate with gift officers to evaluate and maintain donor portfolios, ensuring alignment with organizational fundraising goals. Work with gift officers on an individual basis to identify top prospects within portfolios and provide guidance on maintaining the appropriate number of highly qualified candidates.
  6. Field requests for assigning, redistributing or removing assignments from gift officer portfolios. Review new donors on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for portfolio assignments.
  7. Investigate news media and other potential new sources to identify mutual interests that would lead to support of the organization.
  8. Work with vendors/consultants on larger-scale data modeling projects, reviewing and making recommendations for prospects who rate highly via this analysis.
  9. Build and implement the system for prospect research, ensuring that research requests are prioritized and fulfilled efficiently.
  10. Lead a moves management system, including establishing baselines and metrics for movement and activity.
  11. Update records in the donor database with wealth screening data and research history.
  12. In collaboration with the Donor Database team, evaluate research tools available to the Office of Philanthropy. Make recommendations for adjustments to ensure that the software is meeting the needs of the team.
  13. Attend Prospect Review meetings and provide expertise to the team.
  14. Maintains donor privacy and ensures Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance in the research process.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience, including advanced knowledge of prospect research and data analytics, required.

 


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must have advanced knowledge of prospect research tools, such as ResearchPoint and LexisNexis.
  • Must have basic familiarity with fundraising databases and donor data management. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge/RENXT preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI preferred.
