Overview

The Psychologist III will provide services utilizing evidence-based/informed treatment models and coordinates care with multi-disciplinary teams focused on the strengths and effective individualized treatment for the patient and their family. The incumbent will maintain a clinical caseload including individual and family psychotherapy, diagnostic assessments, parent training, and counseling in child development and behavior management. This position may administer and score psychological tests and assist parents/caregivers in advocating for their children’s needs in the community. The incumbent will provide direct supervision to psychologists and therapists providing clinical services in the program, and may teach and provide direct supervision to trainees. Primary clinical responsibilities will be for individuals in early childhood through young adulthood.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises psychologists and therapists including, but not limited to, recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance appraisals, progressive discipline, and termination.
  2. Serves as a supervisor for psychology trainees in collaboration with the Psychology Training Director, with an emphasis on evidence-based models of care with the patient populations served within the program. Completes written and verbal performance evaluations as required by their program of study.
  3. Conducts evaluations (including diagnostic assessments) and psychological testing. Selects appropriate measures, scores evaluations/tests, and interprets results in formulation for treatment planning and recommendations.
  4. Functions as a therapist within the Psychiatric Mental Health Program (PMHP), providing high-quality competent care in individual, family, and group therapy formats. This may include behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, social skills training, psycho-education, and crisis intervention, and other treatment modalities as appropriate to the needs of the patient.
  5. Develops and implements individualized treatment plans in collaboration with families and the members of the patient’s treatment team. Maintains communication with community professionals involved in the patient’s plan of care.
  6. Achieves billing standards by scheduling enough patients on a weekly basis to account for no-shows and cancellations. Contributes toward the overall therapist group flexibility in adjusting schedules to accommodate on-site, afternoon and/or early evening appointments.
  7. Assists in the triage process for psychologists and therapists providing clinical services in the program.
  8. Assists in coordinating needed services and referrals for patients and families including, but not limited to, residential treatment, psychiatric hospitalization, day treatment, in-home services, and school advocacy.
  9. Maintains up-to-date progress notes, treatment plans, diagnostic reports, and termination reports. Submits documents to the electronic health record accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with the Institute/program guidelines. Completes administrative paperwork required by the Institute, discipline, and/or department.
  10. Arranges coverage for supervision in accordance with discipline guidance when not present due to leave or education days.
  11. Participates in meetings with discipline mentor and discipline/program supervisor, clinical trainings, program meetings, case conferences, and other activities to enhance supervisory skills and/or are related to direct patient care or the operations of the Institute, discipline, or program.
  12. Maintains familiarity with Maryland state laws as well as the laws and ethical guidelines defined by the credentialing board with respect to patient confidentiality, conflicting interests, reporting of abuse, patient termination, and supervision of psychology associates.
  13. Initiate and participate in innovative programs and/or research projects.
  14. Design and conduct presentations nationally, regionally, and locally. Deliver consultations through technical assistance as requested nationally, regionally, locally for a variety of professionals.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain licensure as a Psychologist in Maryland.
  • Must obtain and maintain psychology privileges as a specified professional member of the Kennedy Krieger Institute Medical Staff.
  • American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) certification preferred.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)- or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA)-accredited doctoral program is required.
  • Completion of APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral internship in professional psychology is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) years of experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or specialized patient populations seen in the program required, which may include 2 years of a structured postdoctoral fellowship in psychology.
