Overview

The Pre-K Classroom Assistant (Instructional Assistant I) will deliver services to students in a preschool classroom setting under daily direction of an early intervention teacher. This staff member will interact daily with children, encourage language, social, and self-regulatory development. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing classroom materials, keeping classroom organized and particpate in play and learning activities with children 3-to-5 year-old.

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare instructional materials for the classroom that meet criteria established by the teacher.
  2. Follow classroom routines as outlined by teacher.
  3. Utilize effective behavior management strategies as defined by the classroom teacher.
  4. Provide for basic care needs of students throughout the school day.
  5. Prepare, lead, and support the instructional activities during group and 1:1 activities as directed by the teacher.
  6. Clean, organize, and maintain the classroom.
  7. Assist with duties related to transitioning children from location to location, including drop-off and pick-up, and playground.
  8. Carry out instructional programs in accordance with the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), Individualized Education Program (IEP), Office of Child Care (OCC), and Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD).
  9. Understand and integrate IFSP and IEP goals where appropriate as directed by the therapist and teacher.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to assume a variety of postures (i.e. kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing, etc.) in the course of working with children with and without developmental disabilities.
  2. Lift and carrystudents requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.
  3. Lift/carry/restrainstudents as needed to implement approved behavioral management techniques.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 19years of age.
  • Must meet the Office of Child Care requirements to include completion of the 90-hour Child Care Certificate according to the timeline established by the department.
  • Must possess and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Medication Administration

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College equivalent coursework in Education, Psychology, or related field preferred.

 


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience providing child care in an approved setting preferred.
  • Experience as a paraprofessional in a classroom or with special needs population desirable.
