Overview

The Food Service Aide I performs a variety of tasks related to serving meals to the program’s participants. Responsibilities include food preparation; ensuring proper food safety and handling; cleaning; documentation; transportation of materials and participant meals; and general purchasing.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare meals for children and parents who attend the Early Head Start program.
  2. Adhere to and follow the daily kitchen checklist.
  3. Drive van and transport meals from the Greenspring campus to the Early Head Start program.
  4. Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties to include but not limited to providing courier services, purchasing, and transporting materials to/from storage.
  5. Document meal service records for each meal served.
  6. Document and follow the specified daily menu. Appropriately document changes if/when they occur.
  7. Monitor and accurately document the temperature of food, the freezer, and the refrigerator to ensure a high standard of quality control.
  8. Maintain food supplies and utensils to including cups, plastic wear, napkins, bins and baby food.
  9. Cut/Peel and prepare food into appropriate child size portions.
  10. Ensure that perishable food is stored in the participant refrigerator with appropriate labels and dates.
  11. Wash and sanitize coolers, utensils, and equipment used in food preparation and food delivery services.
  12. Wash and sanitize tables, chairs, counter tops, and sinks and ensure that the kitchen area is clean and orderly.
  13. Prepare soap and water solutions for parent clean up.
  14. Ensure that dirty cloths and bibs are taken to the washing machine and appropriately washed.
  15. Provide classroom and front desk coverage as needed (i.e., during lunches, breaks, and absence).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess and/or maintain a valid Maryland state drivers’ license.
  • 90-Hour Child Care Certificate preferred.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Entry level position; however previous experience (professional or internship) that is relevant to the aspects of the position preferred.
  • Background working with children preferred.
