Overview

The Health Information Management Document Imaging Technician is responsible for the creation of electronic medical records. Accurately preps, scans and indexes patient documentation into the medical record according to established guidelines. This employee maintains high quality of work with consistency and timely turn-around of all medical records documents to ensure proper and timely patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. Retrieves loose work and records daily.
  2. Prep medical records, loose material, raw data, etc. for inclusion in the electronic health record according to established quality assurance procedures and guidelines. (e.g. remove staples, repair tears, ensure patient identifiers are present)
  3. Scan medical records, loose material, raw data, etc. for inclusion in the electronic health record according to established quality assurance procedures and guidelines. Monitors imaging system for scanning errors and verifies documents are correct and legible once scanned. Performs daily maintenance of the scanner and calibrates scanner for proper image quality.
  4. Index medical records, loose material, raw data, etc. for inclusion in the electronic health record according to established quality assurance procedures and guidelines. Ensures all documents are properly identified to the patient, chart type, folder, document type and any other required fields.
  5. Responds to request for medical records in a timely manner. Notifies requestors of the status of their request. Provides follow up in a timely manner.
  6. Picks up/delivers, sorts and distributes interdepartmental mail.
  7. Retrieves discharged Inpatient charts from the Inpatient Units as needed.
  8. Processes all requests for Inpatient admission copies from the Patient Accounting Department as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One-year experience in the Health Information Management field is preferred.
