Overview

The Employment Training Specialist will be responsible for providing training and support for individuals, employers, families, and district personnel to insure success during the worksite rotations and/or a competitive job. Facilitate the training and integration of an individual with a disability at their place of employment.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides individualized support during an integrated internship /competitive job in order for the individual to acquire and maintain competitive and marketable skills.
  2. Communicates effectively with Project SEARCH Coordinator, Employment Coordinator, internship department managers /mentors, co-workers, family members, and other Employment Training Specialist as it relates to the individual needs and supports.
  3. Performs task analyses to enable a student to learn and productively perform tasks with sufficient quality.
  4. Completes daily data forms for each individual to provide to the Post-Secondary Team.
  5. Assist with completing assessments to determine the abilities of the individual, the demands of the job tasks, and assist the team to make meaningful matches.
  6. Implements and documents the portion of the plan(s) related to Supported
  7. Works with consumers, employers, families, job placement specialist, agency personnel, affiliate school personnel and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to training and employment.
  8. Supports individuals in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and behavior as they relate to successful employment.
  9. Provides travel training to the host business and job site, as needed.
  10. Participates in decision making process to identify and implement training strategies and/or services with the Post-Secondary Team and host business staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma, or GED, is required.  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Human Services, or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have at least two years of related experience along with a high school diploma.
  • Must have at least one year of related experience along with an Associate’s degree.
  • No previous experience required with a Bachelors’ degree in Special Education, Human Services, or a related field.
