  • Overview

    PACT’s Therapeutic Nursery Early Head Start program offers specialized child care services for children under the age of three and their families, who are experiencing homelessness or housing uncertainty.

     

    Child Care Teacher II is responsible for the daily planning, management, and oversight of the classroom and children. The Child Care Teacher II will consult with the Program Manager prior to implementing any programmatic/daily decisions. In the absence of the Therapeutic Nursery (TN) Supervisor and Family Support Worker, this position oversees the daily operation of the Therapeutic Nursery (TN).

     

     

    *The Child Care is located within the Sarah's Hope Homeless Shelter on Mount Street-Baltimore, 21217

     

    Responsibilities

    1. Presents models and provides educational activities to children in an unrestricted environment using best practices. Activities are culturally-sensitive, attachment-based, and trauma-informed.
    2. In collaboration with the TN Supervisor, maintains Teaching Strategies Gold and prepares for all site visits (i.e., Health & Safety, ITERS, School Readiness Goal Review, and EHS Program Visit).
    3. Mentors Child Care Teachers to ensure best practices are implemented consistently throughout the center.
    4. In collaboration with TN Supervisor, completes child development screenings (ASQ & ASQ-SE, DECA-IT).
    5. Develops, plans, and prepares instructional aids/material for classroom.
    6. Assures that all center/classroom paperwork is completed in a timely fashion (daily log, child observations, attendance, and assessment tools progress notes).
    7. Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness, and safety in the classroom environment are appropriately maintained.
    8. Maintains courteous communications with parents regarding their child’s progress, needs, and concerns.
    9. Responsible for daily operation oversight when the TN Supervisor and Family Support Worker are not on-site. Program Manger must be consulted prior to implementation of any programmatic/daily decisions.
    10. Follows all OCC licensing requirements and EHS Performance Standards.

     

    Qualifications

     

    EDUCATION:

    • AA degree in Early Childhood Education and a 90 Hour Child Care certificate (or equivalent education) required, OR
    • Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate and any AA degree is required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Must have a minimum of two years in previous child care environment.
    • Experience with special needs population preferred.

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Must be able to bend, squat and lift up to 35 lbs.
