Overview

THIS IS A 20 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION

 

The Staff Interpreter-ASL will provide direct interpreting services to patients, families, trainees, staff in varying situations in American Sign Language (ASL). The Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting support for KKI faculty, staff, and trainees in material posted to the KKI website and other social media. The Staff Interpreter will also support excellence in accessibility by providing education support, outreach, and consultation within KKI on working with an interpreter, as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide direct interpreting services to patients, families, trainees, staff, in varying situations and may include patient appointments, therapy sessions, group meetings, staff trainings, and outreach.
  2. Provide educational support, outreach, and consultation within KKI on working with an interpreter, as assigned by program coordinator. For example, providing training to departments and clinics on working with an interpreter.
  3. Communicate with program coordinator regarding emerging issues and needs regarding accessibility.
  4. Implement patient satisfaction measures as directed by program coordinator, related to interpreter services and other quality improvement activities.
  5. Support patient, trainee, and staff autonomy and culture of respect in accessing effective communication and patient care as demonstrated through respect for patient, family, or trainee choices.
  6. Participate in meetings as assigned by program coordinator to ensure that interpreting and accessibility needs are met across the institute.
  7. Maintain competence through ongoing professional development.
  8. Provide interpreting support for KKI faculty, staff, and trainees in material posted to the KKI website and other social media.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited institution.
  • Must possess and maintain certification as an interpreter by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD)

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in interpreting for Deaf professionals in a healthcare and/or educational setting for 1 year or more is preferred.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information via English or ASL.
  • Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned and to receive detailed information through American Sign Language.
