    THIS IS A 40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION WORKING MONDAY-FRIDAY, 8:00AM-4:30PM. CNA CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.

     

    The Nursing Technician I (Rehabilitation Aide) will perform duties that are under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and a Registered Physical Therapist depending on their assignment.

     

    While under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse: the Nursing Technician I (Rehabilitation Aide) will provide technical assistance and supportive care to patients throughout assigned areas. This position performs duties delegated by the Registered Nurse according to the Department of Nursing Permissive Procedure List in accordance with the Maryland Board of Nursing Nurse practice act, and the judgment of the individual Registered Nurse.

     

    While under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist: the Nursing Technician I (Rehabilitation Aide) will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a Physical Therapist within the policies and procedures of KKI and the departmental program and in accordance with Laws and Regulations of the State of Maryland. This position will assist physical therapy staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance, and operational needs of the program.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    Under the direction of the Registered Nurse:

    1. Reviews the Kardex, care plan, and interdisciplinary protocols for assigned patients.
    2. With the licensed nurse, prioritizes work schedules to accommodate the needs of assigned patients and efficient functioning of the unit.
    3. Provides direct patient physical care, including patients’ personal hygiene, consistent with the patient’s level of adaptive skills.
    4. Ambulates, positions, and turns patients and cares for the patient with altered mobility.
    5. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
    6. Prepares and transports patients for scheduled appointments and remains with patients when required.
    7. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness, neatness, and organization of the patients’ environment and helps maintain a safe patient environment.
    8. Documents in the medical record with clear, concise, and accurate data regarding patients’ conditions, issues, etc.
    9. Identifies and reports problems and concerns regarding patient protocols including any changes in patients’ physical or emotional health.
    10. Collects, labels, and transports laboratory specimens, and other requested items, to appropriate areas as assigned.
    11. Actively participates in Nursing Department activities including educational in-services.

     

     

    Under the direction of the Physical Therapist:

    1. Prepares, maintains, and cleans patient treatment areas before and after treatment sessions. Adheres to KKI policies regarding patient and staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy, and patient-specific and standard precautions.
    2. Assists in the practice of therapeutic exercise and functional activities programs under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist, as per Maryland state law.
    3. Demonstrates appropriate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities. Informs clinicians of any adverse effects.
    4. Greets, transports, and assists patients with hygiene and dressing needs.
    5. Reminds and clarifies appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans.
    6. Maintains program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling, and storing supplies. Participates in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transporting, tracking, scheduling, and safe storage of equipment. Identifies, corrects, and reports quality control problems, such as removal and coordination of repair of broken equipment, or environmental hazards.
    7. Actively participates in meetings and committees including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attends staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    • High School Diploma or GED preferred
    • Completion of a recognized training program in providing direct patient care required (Certified Nursing Assistant)

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Experience with pediatric and/or developmental disabled population preferred.
