    The Assistant Manager, Security is tasked with working with the Security Manager to oversee operation of the Security Department and to help maintain a safe working environment at the Institute. This assignment will provide the security staff with leadership, supervision, and the training required to perform their jobs at the highest level. Will create and implement an effective training curriculum instructing security staff with pertinent and related information. The incumbent will oversee the proper functioning of essential systems to include but not limited to the Close Circuit Television (CCTV), radio communication, and the Institute’s card access systems.


    1. Assist the Security Manager with all security related functions at Kennedy Krieger Institute.
    2. Supervise security officers and coordinators to include but not limited to training, scheduling and providing performance management.
    3. Design, create, deliver, and evaluate training programs for security staff to include an onboarding and regular in-service curriculum.
    4. Obtain, organize, or develop training procedure manuals, guides, or course materials, such as handouts or visual materials.
    5. Coordinate with external entities to host guest instructors.
    6. Oversee the Institute’s CCTV system to ensure proper operation to include effective collaboration with vendors to appropriately maintain and upgrade the system.
    7. Oversee the Institute’s radio communication system ensuring radios and emergency repeaters are functioning properly, tested and serviced regularly.
    8. Oversee the Institute’s card access system, granting staff and visitor access, ensuring proper operation and work with private vendors to maintain and upgrade the system when appropriate.
    9. Assist the Security Manager with investigations to include but not limited to conducting investigations, interviewing individuals, and completing reports.
    10. Represent the Security Manager and Security department at internal and external meetings to include meetings with local law enforcement and other security partners.



    • Associates degree required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, or related field preferred.



    • Must have a minimum of four years’ experience working in local, state, federal, or military law enforcement.
    • Must have experience creating coursework and teaching security or law enforcement personnel.
    • Previous supervisory experience is desired.
