The Environmental Care Technician I is responsible for cleaning the facility which includes but is not limited to routine cleaning, gathering/removal of trash and debris, terminal cleaning, spot cleaning, and maintenance of the inpatient units’ floors and rooms. The incumbent works in a hospital environment and will keep assigned area well stocked, neat and tidy.
1. Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas (nurses’ station, break rooms, conference rooms, etc.). Dust furniture, lights, vents, cabinets, window sills, blinds, etc. Wash and wipe down windows, mirrors, walls, fixtures, counters, shower areas, and other hard surfaces.
2. Ensure floors, rooms and hallways are clean and free of debris and emergency spills (i.e. water, bodily fluids, etc.) whether observed or upon request.
3. Perform terminal cleaning procedures after patient has been discharged and prepare rooms for new occupants.
4. Clean and restock facility restrooms.
5. Gather, remove and dispose trash and waste according to established procedures.
6. Follow procedures and formula specifications to make and use germicidal solution.
7. Keep janitor’s room neat and orderly. Monitor and report low equipment supply levels.
8. Promptly report safety hazards, deficiencies, or needed repairs including but not limited to broken or cracked window panes, leaky faucets, toilets, loose tiles, broken blinds and damaged furniture, etc.
9. Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Blood Borne Pathogen Safety Standards. Comply with the Institute’s Infection Prevention practices.
10. Complete special cleaning or moving projects as needed.
11. Attend meetings and/or training sessions as required.
General healthcare environmental service in a hospital or long term care facility or housekeeping experience preferred.
Floor care experience is a plus.
