The RA I carry out scientific experiments in the Muscle Center laboratory.  The ability to grasp the rationale for the methods used and careful attention to details of the protocols are important for success.  Reliability and the ability to work well with multiple investigators are essential.  The RA I will be expected to read the scientific literature, design experimental plans, independently carry out experiments, independently analyze data,  assist in the development and standardization of protocols,  and make presentations to others in the division about his/her work. 

Responsibilities

  1. Independently conduct experiments under the direction of the Principle Investigator (PI) which involve techniques in in vivo function, small animal dissection, mammalian cell culture, histology, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology.
  2. Perform genotyping and maintain several mouse lines.
  3. Design and plan experiments, using above/other methods.
  4. Assist in the implementation of new experimental protocols, based on methods described in scientific literature.
  5. Ordering and procurement of materials, inventory control, shipping/receiving reconciliation.
  6. Maintain appropriate biosafety protocols, regulations, radiation use.
  7. Involvement in processing of patient biomaterial.
  8. Maintain and coordinate routine service of laboratory equipment.
  9. Thoroughly document experimental procedures, variations and observations of experiments performed. Ensure documentation is precise and systematically entered in a laboratory notebook.
  10. Follow established departmental and university policies for quality assurance, infection control, safety and environmental protection.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

 

  • Must have a BA/BS
  • Masters in physical science preferred


 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Must have a minimum of three years professional laboratory experience
