the Research Assistant collaborates with the PI and allied research collaborators in attainment of research goals in the Neurophysiology Laboratory at KKI. The tasks performed by the Research Assistant include but are not limited to experimental design, behavioral analysis, electrophysiological (EEG) data collection, data preprocessing, data analysis and contribution to the development of novel analysis techniques.  The position potentially requires the incumbent to work as part of a research team, train students, trainees and staff as well as carry out the above data collection and analysis techniques with a considerable degree of independence. The technology and research goals in the Neurophysiology Lab are diverse and therefore the Research Assistant must be detail oriented, technically competent, an effective communicator and an independent problem solver. 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts EEG & Goniometer experiments and collects data from research subjects.
  2. Performs preprocessing and analysis of EEG data.
  3. Assists in the development of new analysis techniques, through reading of journal articles, programming, trouble-shooting and effective reporting/documentation.
  4. Evaluates technical issues. Troubleshoots and resolves conflicts during the setup of new experiments.
  5. Maintains clear, complete and accurate records of data collection and analysis steps performed.
  6. Assists in the development and documentation of research protocols.
  7. Trains new students on all aspects of the research protocols.
  8. Collaborates effectively with all members of the research team (both inside the lab and outside).
  9. Attends and participates in research activities involving, but not limited to, grant preparation, manuscript preparation, quality control issues, and protocol development or revision and when necessary prepare and presents routine and incremental updates on relevant projects.
  10. Enhances professional growth and development through case conferences, educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars, including preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
  11. Documents the results of ongoing studies, by providing text, tables and figures for scientific review, including submissions to conferences, peer-reviewed publications, and grants.
  12. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • B.A./B.S. in an appropriate discipline (e.g., biology, neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science, physics) required.
  • Master’s degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year working in a research laboratory.
