The Security Officer II is responsible for the safety/security of all visitors, patients, staff, etc., utilizing KKI facilities.  Assure that personnel entering the facility possess and display proper identification and sign in properly, when applicable.  Must be able to communicate effectively with people and present a positive/professional image.  May handle telephones, carry out security rounds, monitor CCTV and alarms, control building ingress and egress and complete basic written reports.  The Security Officer II is required to handle any disturbances that may arise while on duty. This staff member is considered to be an essential employee and is expected to report to work during weather emergencies.

Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrate and comply with all related post orders and Kennedy Krieger Institute’s policies and procedures.
  2. Assure enforcement of all policies/procedures relating to parking and security on Kennedy Krieger property.
  3. Provide for the safety/security of all visitors, patients, staff, etc…utilizing Kennedy Krieger Institute methods, protocol, policy and procedure.
  4. Effectively communicate with KKI staff, vendors, patients and visitors and present a positive/professional image.  Check employee ID’s and sign in visitors.
  5. Prepare reports as required.
  6. Assure that assigned work environments are properly maintained and clean.  Report safety/security issues and property defects to appropriate authority in a timely fashion.
  7. Must thoroughly understand and comply with all emergency procedures and competencies and be able to demonstrate knowledge.
  8. Attend/take part in all training and staff meetings when scheduled.
  9. Document and report all suspicious activity.
  10. Arm/disarm alarm systems and monitor CCTV systems.
  11. Inspect packages carried out of buildings by Kennedy Krieger employees to assure individual has proper pass/authorization for removal.
  12. Inspect packages entering the buildings carried by visitors for contraband.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Position requires one year previous security experience or professional training from an accredited university or community college.  Classroom credit for courses related to the security profession may be submitted for work experience; however, previous security experience or military training is preferred.
