The Therapeutic Assistant will assist the Speech-Language Pathologist in an Achievements classroom using research-based treatment methods for toddlers and preschoolers with autism spectrum disorders. This staff member will implement research-based treatment protocols in the classroom (group, dyad, and 1:1 contexts), interact with the children to encourage language, social, and self-regulatory development, prepare teaching materials, assist the group leader with parent communication and training, collect data on the children’s progress, treatment response, and assist with other projects within CARD (i.e., parent resource room).

Responsibilities

  1. Carry out instructional program as outlined by Speech Language Pathologists.
  2. Assist in data collection and perform data entry.
  3. Utilize effective behavior management strategies outlined by SLP and behavior specialists.
  4. Provide for basic care needs of students during groups and parent meetings.
  5. Assist in the development of therapeutic materials as requested by SLP.
  6. Participate in parent awareness and training activities.
  7. Prepare and lead specified activities during groups.
  8. Support planning, preparation and staffing for supplemental programming in Achievements.
  9. Complete medical, behavioral, and other in-service training as needed.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have some college classes (AA preferred) in psychology, education, or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have experience with young children with autism and implementation of treatment protocols.
  • Must have experience working as a paraprofessional with young children with autism.
