THIS IS A 40 HOURS WPER WEEK POSITION WORKING A COMBINATION OF DAY AND EVENING ROTATION, INCLUDING EVERY OTHER WEEKEND AND A MIX OF 8 AND 12 HOUR SHIFTS.  CNA CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.

 

The Nursing Technician provides technical assistance and supportive patient care to patients throughout assigned areas, and under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.  The Nursing Technician performs duties delegated by the licensed nurse according to the Department of Nursing Permissive Procedure List and in accordance with the Maryland Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act, and the judgment of the individual licensed nurse

 

Responsibilities

  1. Under the direction of the licensed nurse, and at the beginning of every shift, the Nursing Technician reviews the Kardex, care plan, and interdisciplinary protocols for assigned patients.
  2. With the licensed nurse, prioritizes work schedules to accommodate needs of assigned patients and efficient functioning of the unit.
  3. Provides direct patient physical care, including patients’ personal hygiene, onsistent with the patient’s level of adaptive skills.
  4. Ambulates, positions, and turns patients and cares for the patient with altered mobility.
  5. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
  6. Prepares and transports patients for scheduled appointments and remains with patients when required.
  7. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness, neatness and organization of the patients’ environments and helps maintain a safe patient environment.
  8. Documents the medical records with clear, concise and accurate data regarding patients’ conditions, issues, etc.
  9. Identifies and reports problems and concerns regarding patient protocols including any changes in patients’ physical/emotional health, and responses to the licensed nurse.
  10. Collects, labels and transports laboratory specimens, and other requested items, to appropriate areas as assigned.
  11. Actively participates in Nursing Department activities including in-services, to improve the work environment.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal training program in providing direct patient care. (CNA certification from the MBON)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with pediatric and/or developmental disabled population preferred.
